The Process

Step 1: Each student will begin by individually researching the Confucian philosophy. They should use a variety of resources to do this including but not limited to the Internet, books and encyclopedias, and people. Research should be focused around ideas of filial piety, Confucian values, and ideas.

1. Students should first use some of links posted on this blog.
2. Next students should use book resources and compare their findings.
3. Finally if additional information is needed students should find additional outlets, such as, people or additional websites (must be approved by teacher.)
4. The class should then get together and share what they have found in a discussion.
5. For homework the students should summarize their findings in a one to two page paper.

Step 2: The next step will make the students connect their knowledge of Confucianism with Chinese architecture. To do this Students will have to study Chinese architecture by using a variety of sources, such as, books and encyclopedias, the Internet, and other people. Research should be focused on connecting Confucianism with architecture and culture.

1. First students should use any of the links on this blog or in the bibliography to research Chinese architecture paying particular attention to its relationship to culture and Confucianism.
2. Next students should use resources that they find for themselves. All resources should be assessed for validity by both the teacher and student.
3. Upon conclusion of research the students should meet in a group with the teacher and discuss the relationship between Confucianism and architecture. The teacher should be well versed in the topic but for additional background information teachers can visit http://thor-i-search.blogspot.com/ for a summarized selection of background information.
4. Two summarize what the students have learned they should write a one to two page paper on the subject of homework.

Step 3: To demonstrate their knowledge the students will draw up a plan for a traditional Chinese temple, palace, or dwelling of their choice. The plan will not only show the main building but also any outbuildings and the entire compound.

1. The plan should include all aspects of Chinese architecture that the students learned about.
2. Included with the plan is a one to two page paper explaining all the aspects of Chinese architecture that each student included in his/her plan.
