The Task

Students will analyze the connection between Confucianism and Chinese architecture by following two steps leading up to a interactive final project.

Step 1: Research Confucianism as a philosophy and write a one to two page response as well as taking notes on the subject. Students will use a variety of resources to complete this step, including at least three books.

Step 2: Students will then connect Confucianism with Chinese architecture by creating a one to two page paper linking the the knowledge they learned in the first step with new research the students will gather.

Step 3: Students will demonstrate their knowledge by drawing up a plan for a traditional Chinese temple, palace, or dwelling of their choice. The plan will not only show the main building but also any outbuildings and the entire compound. The plan must also include all aspects of Chinese architecture. This is to be included with a one to two page response explaining the placement of all Chinese elements in the compound.
