Bibliography

"Ancient Chinese Architecture." China Style. 2003. 07 Feb. 2008 . The website China Style was a informational site that encouraged travelers to visit China. This meant that the site had many informative and nice pictures that helped to connect the reading with the descriptions of different impressive Chinese buildings. This site is a great place to find examples of Chinese styles in the real world.

Brian, Paul. "Examples of Filial Piety." Washington State University. 18 Dec. 1998. Washington State University. 02 Feb. 2008 . This site was very specific in it's subject matter. It helped me to link Confucianism with Chinese architecture and culture by explaining what filial piety was and giving real examples.

"China Culture/Architecture." China-Window. 2008. 21 Feb. 2008 . This site was extremely helpful for me when I wanted very detailed information on different aspects of Chinese architecture an their relations to Chinese culture. Of all the sites this on probably helped me the most. I provided a comprehensive list of architectural elements and then elaborated on them to create a very useful web page.

Lee, Alex, James Arndt, and Shane Glodmacher. "Chinese Architecture." Think Quest. 15 Feb. 2008 . This website gave a very accurate idea of traditional Chinese architecture. It broke the elements of architecture up into separate categories dealing with things like roofs, temples, palaces, traditions, and methods of building. This site is very good for a person who would like a straight forward piece of writing that fully explains the obvious connections between culture and architecture.

Steinhardt, Nancy S. Architecture Around the World. New Haven, Connecticut: Yale UP, 2004. This book was very helpful in more than one way. It not only gave an extensive account of Chinese architecture and how it related to Chinese culture but also compared and contrasted Chinese architecture with architectural elements and styles from all around the world. It is a great resource to help find a more in-depth view into Chinese culture, but is not light reading.

"The Art of Chinese Architecture." Chinatown Connection. 2005. 12 Feb. 2008 . This site was very helpful in explaining basic principles of Chines architecture such as symmetry and other principles. This would be a very good site for a person to further their basic knowledge on the subject, but not rely on heavy.
